Fed by Miracle Bread

I’m sorry I didn’t get many devotionals written last week. I’ve been busy with some other things and was beginning to feel that the devotionals were getting redundant and were no longer inspired. I was just typing them out to get them done instead of waiting for the Holy Spirit to really speak to me. Have you ever noticed how God doesn’t work on our timetable? 😊
The story for today is about Jesus feeding the 5,000, and as I thought about it this weekend, it seemed so appropriate for how I’m feeling. Just like the people who were physically hungry, my soul was hungry and needed to be fed. Jesus, who had compassion on the people and miraculously fed them with fish and bread, had compassion on me as well. He fed me as I thought about His ability to supply all we need, and He reminded me that I need to open my empty hands and accept His bounty, without telling Him how to feed me. This evening, I got a phone call from a dear friend who encouraged me that instead of telling God how to fix things, I just ask Him for help and let Him take care of it since He knows what’s best.
And so tonight, with my soul fed on the truth of His Word, and knowing that this evening’s simple phone call was divinely orchestrated, I go to bed grateful that when we are empty and in need, He is more than able to fill us because He is the bread of life.
(For those of you who are waiting and feel that there’s no response from Heaven, I’ve definitely been there, too. I have no answers for why God acts sometimes and doesn’t at others. But that is the mystery of God who, even when we don’t like it, teaches us lessons that help us grow and mature until we become more like Christ. So please hang on, my friend. Even if you don’t feel His love, He loves you still, and one day we will all see why we had to wait.)
