A symbol of man’s cruelty to man.
A symbol of Roman justice.
A symbol of pain and disgrace.
A symbol of salvation.

How ironic that the cross was used to mete out Roman justice, while God used it that dark Friday to mete out divine justice on His innocent Son.
How ironic that God who breathed life into Adam, gasped for every painful breath on the cross.
How ironic that the only One who did not deserve death, died for the sake of those who did.
How ironic that the thief on the cross was promised paradise, but the priests were not.
How ironic that the hands nailed to the cross would one day hold the key to death.
How ironic that Jesus requested forgiveness for His tormentors and then died to ensure it.
How ironic that the Roman centurion should identify Jesus as the Son of God when the religious leaders refused to believe.
How ironic that He should triumph over sin and Satan by His death.
How ironic that the immortal God should die.
How inconceivable that God would give His Son for a world filled with rebels and haters to make them His children.
How ironic that the symbol of death should be transformed into a symbol of eternal hope!
